Hi, there
Well, the only thing I'm worse about than answering my e-mail in a
timely manner is updating my webpage. I suppose that should be
embarrasing for someone who works with computers all day, except that...
well, you don't exactly see tech support people on the phone after work,
do you?
So - about me. You get the short version, because if you want the
long version I'm sure you'll e-mail me. I live in Austin, TX where it's
beautiful and sunny most of the time (although it's snowed twice in the
last two years and both times I vowed to move further south). I work for
a company in San Antonio called
Digital Defense, and they're
quickly shaping up to be the longest job I've held since leaving school
:) Some of my friends seem to think I have a talent for destroying
companies, since I've only left one company where I wasn't one of the last
employees laid off. I think it's just that the other companies weren't
smart enough to hire me as a developer, so they had to go :-) For a list
of my past companies, see here.
So what do I do while I'm not working? Hello! I'm a computer person...
I spend the time I'm not working asleep, having nightmares about work!
Ok, so not really. My recreation involves working on my house (bought it
in December of 1999 - it's *very* small, though), building things out of
wood, and taking vacations.
My woodworking projects
My latest woodworking projects
My trip to Brazil
I've been to Guam twice this year, but to get those pics you have to ask
nicely :-)
My home projects
Finishing my driveway
The wondercar!
And no, I don't have any kids; as I've had to explain many a time, if I had kids I'd need a trailer for my station wagon (to put the
kids in)
A wedding I'm going to be in
For the record, this happy couple is the *third* marriage I've helped
create. I should start charging for this service!
So what else can we talk about? I'm a PADI certified advanced scuba
diver (if you want go diving, let me know and I *will* be on the next
plane :-)), I drive my car all around the country far too much (I put
100K miles on my Acura in 2 years), I use my cell phone perhaps a bit too
much (3000-4000 minutes/month), and I'm planning to build a plane as soon
as I get done building my woodworking shed in my backyard. So no, I
haven't been keeping myself busy :)
Old Stuff below here
Michael's Homepage v. 2
This webpage is a direct result of Michael's Homepage
v. 1, which is... well, an
eyesore. I'd destroy it but it is the result of many hours of my time and
after all, you never know when some of the dirty tricks I used to make
that page work may come in handy again...
So what's this page for? Well, it's more of Michael's professional
page. I was getting ready to send off an e-mail the other day asking for
a job interview with a URL for my
resume
when I realized that I didn't want any prospective employer
clicking on the "back to Michael's homepage" link. It's that bad.
So Michael's Homepage v. 2 was born.. and here it is. I will be
maintaining it (unlike v. 1) and it will slowly get everything worth
saving from v. 1, but for now it has very little.
(Philosophical statement approaching) One of the things that will not
quite make it here from my original page is my contribution to the
browser wars. After all, that particular page was best viewed by the
blind. I expect that this one will be
best viewed with any browser. I'm especially interested in that
campaign because, like most of the computer-enlightened (i.e. people who
understand that computers are very expensive toasters) I use lynx as my
main web browser.
In the tradition of my original webpage, this page will be made by
hand... pages are just better that way... and of course it will be edited
with vi because I tend to go
crazy when I try to use other editors.
Also, if you're interested enough to have gone this far then you may
be interested in some Internet Baby Web Pages. As the URL may have led
you to conclude, I admin a computer or two on the net and this is one of
them. The
Breanna and Corey
internet baby web site was born as the result of my efforts to find
something worthwhile to do with my systems :)
Featured Links
These are links that appear above here but I was just recently helping
out at a web page design class that said you shouldn't have inline links
like that, since they often take away from the content... what an
interesting thought; if you believe that then by all means use the links
below and ignore the ones above :)
